A large campus of contemporary culture

Located in the Flaminio district, MAXXI - National Museum of 21st Century Art is a large campus for culture, inaugurated in 2010 and designed by star architect Zaha Hadid. Built in the area of the former Montello barracks, between Via Masaccio and Via Guido Reni, you can get there by taking Metro A to Flaminio, followed by tram number 2 to Apollodoro. You can’t miss it, thanks to its innovative and spectacular shapes.

The centre has a dual personality: MAXXI Art and MAXXI Architecture. It hosts art, architecture, design and photography exhibitions, fashion, film, music, theatre and dance performances, and meetings with contemporary artists and stars. Collections are on display on a rotating basis, with free admission from Tuesday to Thursday. The museum is designed not only as a place for the conservation and exhibition of artistic heritage, but also as a laboratory for cultural experimentation and innovation. Educational activities and workshops for adults and children are organised throughout the year.
